The weather is getting noticeably warmer. We’ve restocked the gas bottle for the BBQ and starting to get out more to enjoy the spring sun. It’s still a bit cold for full summer gear, but I’m enjoying the lighter layers.
A few weeks back I bought a new sewing machine. I got to work straight away with some home-sew projects using the material I had been collecting over the years for that ‘one day when I have a machine’. Well now is the time and my first piece was this black thigh high slit maxi skirt.
After seeing a photo of Kendall Jenner, qween of skirt slits, wearing something similar and having no idea where to even start looking for something as specific as that (it would probably be really easy to find though), I decided to DIY it.
*On a side note, how babin’ is Kendall Jenner?? She is definitely one of my style inspirations. So chic, edgy, classy. Urgh! Can’t even deal with her style RN.
Obviously I’m no Kendall Jenner, I should definitely work on that leg tan, but I’m happy with the results. The stitching could use some work, but for someone who only did one term of high school sewing, I think I did pretty well!
I wore it with white sneakers and a knitted dark gold kaftan by Eileen Fisher (she now ships to Australia btw!!). I found the kaftan in an op-shop not knowing the designer for a $20 steal. A quick internet search later and hers became my favourite label both with her clothes and her story. It’s one of my favourite pieces in my wardrobe and I wear it to death every summer.
I topped off my look with a black broad brimmed hat which blew off in a gust of wind (Y) September = Not Good For Hats
