Okay. If you know me well, you’ll know I’m not big on makeup usage. That doesn’t mean I don’t WANT to be big on it! I just don’t know how/don’t have money/feel slightly overwhelmed (anyone else have these feels?)/ etc. You know, all those great I don’t know how to start feelings.
But since I’ve been blogging, I’ve come across so many amazing bloggers who do makeup tutorials and makeup looks that I just felt inspired to make a jump. Enter : a shopping trip to return a dress that I wasn’t crazy about. Instead of walking straight to the returns counter, D and I decided to take a stroll through Kmart and look at all the things we didn’t need. We hadn’t picked up anything (I was really proud of us) the entire walk around the store before we hit the makeup stands. Literally right before returns they have shelves of makeup that you need to actively avoid. Who would stand a chance really?
So I glanced over and saw an entire section dedicated to E.L.F (eyes, lips, face) Cosmetics. I got excited. I’ve seen so many positive posts about ELF that I wanted to just ‘see’…….
I ended up buying four things and the price wasn’t terribly draining on our bank account. We spent around $50 for a liquid liner, bronzer, lipstick, mascara and eyeshadow palette. Yay! Now, I have never in my life used a liquid liner but it called to me so I got it.
What I bought :
- e.l.f. Day to Night Lipstick Duo – Red Hot Reds
- e.l.f. Moisturizing Lipstick – Flirty and Fabulous
- e.l.f. Clay Eyeshadow Palette – Necessary Nudes
- e.l.f Mascara
- e.l.f. Contouring Blush & Bronzing Powder – St. Lucia
What’s even better is that I went to their website, and E.L.F. does not test on animals and most of their products are vegan friendly. If you want more info head to their website here.
I really like the simplistic packaging. It wasn’t overtly flashy nor was it cheap and tacky. Simple matte black with simple white branding. I like it.
The colours of the lipsticks look really vibrant so I’m excited to start using them and see how they hold up over the course of a day (or night!)
I did use the eye shadow palette and bronzer/blush duo and it didn’t seem to be as pigmented as I had hoped. Maybe I just couldn’t see it well under the lighting of my bathroom, but I felt like I needed ALOT before I could see any bronze or rouge on my face. But alas, I will persist, just in case my amateur-ness is to blame.
Looking at their blog I’m convinced I need more so maybe I can come up with some excuse to go back to get more soon…maybe….probably. Perhaps I should master what I have currently and THEN go back for more yes?
Have you ever used E.L.F. Cosmetics? What are your thoughts on them?
